I raise and show Great Danes and have shown my
Boxers and I belong
to the
Lake Shore Great Dane Club in Illinois and the
GDCA
(Great Dane Club of America). I have been raising, showing,
training, grooming, teaching
dogs since 1973 and have worked with dogs my whole adult life.
My desire is always to give the best to my dogs and educate myself
to the best
of my ability in the breeds I love and in helping others to learn
the art of showing and raising dogs. My passion has been there
for the love of
dogs since I was a tiny little girl.
So, because of my love of dogs, and especially
having the giants, I have tried to educate
myself on the best way to feed my dogs and to stay balanced in the
way I see them in
living with them and in how I train them. Realizing, these are
carnivores and they
are in need of being cared for in that manner. So, with that,
I learned about the
AFS (Animal Food Services) about 15 years ago and have been a fan
and a believer
in it since I was first introduced to it by Jerry Nash of AFS.
No matter how much we breed our dogs into different shapes and
sizes, colors and types, a dogs a dog.
There needs nutritionally and the way their bodies grow and depend
on the digestive process,
are still the same and that is a fact.
Domestic or wild, they are designed to eat and process foods in a
raw state and
are designed for scavenging. They still work the same way
today and
there is no one out in the field, heating, cooking or processing the
meals that the canine in the wild, lives on today.
Meat is 95% digestible compared to about 65% digestible of the dry
processed foods.
So, what goes in, with the meat, does not come out like with
processed dry
foods, because so much more of the meat is used in the dogs system,
compared to
the waste from the processing of foods today.
There are not the additives in the meat for the dogs to try to
process that are synthetic. All the
meat and organs are used in the dog and you see the coat and muscle
just come to
a level of quality that can't match the dry foods.
Stools are small and have a consistency that is different with
little clean up. Puppies weaned on the
meat are so easy to house break. Their pens are cleaner and
the waste is much less. Your
puppy pens are so much easier to clean up and puppies are not full
of messy
soft stools.
The possibilities of the condition of Bloat, could possibly be
lesser because of the
digestibility of the meat in the dogs digestive system.
My personal experience with the meat, feeding it to Great Danes and
Boxers has been
nothing but marvelous. I have had 2 different serious
situations with
HOD and with
a very huge fawn male.
There is nothing better than placing a bowl of meat down in front of
your dog
and watching as he/she devours it's meal and you know that you are
giving your dog
the very best of the best, feeding them the diet they were created
to eat.
Time still shows that our carnivores are just that....meat eaters!!!
